Since 2007, Balinale has had thousands attend the Festival to enjoy Indonesian and international independent and award-winning documentaries, narrative and short films. This year, in accordance with government SARS-CoV-2 protocols and to safeguard the health and well-being of our audience and staff, Balinale 2021 will be held as a combination of online and regulated in-person events designed to celebrate the world of cinema and that keep Bali in the hearts and minds of people.
This year's scaled down program focuses on storytelling encouraging communities, especially our young creatives, to give voice to their own stories. Our upcoming programs are as follows:
AICEF Prize for Cross-Cultural Filmmaking
With the creation of the American-Indonesian Cultural & Educational Foundation (AICEF) Prize, we have established an exchange program selecting films that portray the beauty and struggle of achieving social and cultural co-existence. The winning films will be screened at Middlebury New Filmmakers Festival, Vermont, USA and in Bali this September, circumstances permitting.
Asian Film Awards Academy (AFAA)
We are incredibly excited to collaborate with Create Hong Kong and the Asian Film Awards Academy in welcoming Indonesians to experience a selection of recently released Hong Kong films. This Jakarta event will be presented free of charge.
BalinaleX Film Camp
A selected number of students will be provided with opportunities to participate in programs that promote inspired learning conducted by local and international professionals in the film and creative industries.
Balinale Film Festival Goes Hybrid
This year's Balinale will provide a curated program that combines virtual and live screenings over the 4-day event. The Festival will present a dedicated section to celebrate the films that were selected for its 2020 edition but not presented due to the festival being cancelled.
Awards to be presented in several artistic and technical categories in recognition of our 2020 selections.
Program dates announced soon.
