23 May 2022 – Making Waves – Navigators of Hong Kong Cinema, the touring film programme celebrating the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong SAR, will land in Asia with next month’s the Balinale, Bali’s International Film Festival, after its successful launch in Udine, Italy.
Presented by Create Hong Kong in partnership with Balinale and supported by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, the programme will run from 9 to 12 June, with screenings of six films, a virtual exhibition of the works by four Hong Kong unit photographers, and an innovative meet-and-greet with the acclaimed director Stanley Kwan via HoloPresence™, powered by ARHT Media.
Balinale Founder and Executive Director Deborah Gabinetti said she was thrilled to bring an outstanding selection of new films and restored classics that demonstrate the richness of Hong Kong Cinema in collaboration with Create Hong Kong.
“We are especially looking forward to experiencing – for the first time in Indonesia – a unique, live hologram with Stanley Kwan introducing his critically acclaimed film, Rouge through this state-of-the-art technology,” Ms Gabinetti said.
Mr Law Kin-wai, Director General of the HKETO, said his office was happy to support the Making Waves programme at Balinale. “This multifaceted programme showcases the work of those promising and established Hong Kong filmmakers, sharing with Indonesian audience the variety and creativity of our film industry,” Mr Law said.
The six films featuring in Balinale’s Making Waves programme are:
- Breakout Brother I (2020) directed by Ho Pong Mak
- Drifting (2021) directed by Jun Li
- Hand Rolled Cigarette (2020) directed by Chan Kin-Long
- Septet: The Story of Hong Kong (2020) directed by Patrick Tam, Ringo Lam, Ann Hui, Johnnie To, Woo Ping Yuen, Tsui Hark, Sammo Hung
- Infernal Affairs (Restored) (2002) directed by Andrew Lau, Alan Mak
- Rouge (Restored) (1987) directed by Stanley Kwan
After Udine and Bali, the Making Waves programme will travel to other cities, including Shanghai, London, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Copenhagen, Sydney, Seoul, Singapore, Stockholm, Tokyo, Warsaw, Prague, and Dubai. Please visit the official Making Waves website for regular news and updates.
