Bali, Indonesia – Bali International Film Festival (also known as Balinale) announces its ‘Call for Submissions’ inviting creative, unique, and thought-provoking independent works from Indonesia and worldwide.

Film submissions open on Saturday, 30 November 2024.

Films of all genres of feature narrative and documentary, short narrative, documentary, and animation that inspire, captivate, and entertain will be considered.  Filmfreeway is the festival’s official submission platform.

  • Early Bird Deadline: 11 January 2025
  • Regular Deadline: 15 March 2025
  • WNI Deadline: 15 March 2025
  • Late Deadline: 4 April 2025

As an Academy Award® Qualifying Festival, Balinale Short Film Competition Winners may now be eligible for Best Short Film consideration in the Oscar® competition. Balinale is the first festival in Indonesia to receive Oscar® qualification.

As part of our commitment to further develop the Indonesian creative industry, support new talent, and share local stories, we provide waivers for submissions from Indonesia (WNI).

The weeklong festival will expand and strengthen the global recognition received over the past eighteen years building on a program of bold, intelligent, and creatively stimulating cinema for people from everywhere and creating world-class arts and education forums tied to our affiliates and other organizations. We will also continue to foster a dialogue with international film and television industry counterparts through the Bali Film Forum.

Last year, Balinale screened 60 films representing 25 countries with winners chosen from the 24 films in the competition.

Bali International Film Festival will be held from 1-7 June 2025.
