11 November 2021, Bali, Indonesia – Bali International Film Festival, (also known as Balinale) celebrates its 14th edition from 11 – 14 November by continuing to deliver outstanding entertainment presenting quality, thought-provoking independent, and award-winning short, feature, and documentaries from Indonesia and around the world. The number of films total 49 films from 24 countries.
“Following the digital and regulated in-person model adopted by many festivals over the past year,
this year’s Balinale is designed to aid in welcoming people back to Bali and into the cinema with all live screenings provided to the community free of charge,” says Founder and President Deborah Gabinetti.

As part of its 2021 programming, Balinale is proud to present a retrospective of Garin Nugroho’s 40-year career in cinema. Indonesia’s international award-winning film director, producer and writer will discuss his impressive body of work on features, documentaries, and shorts. “Welcoming Garin back to the festival since screening his Opera Jawa (2006) at the first Balinale is a genuine pleasure,” continued Deborah.
In addition to Garin, Balinale will host some of the country’s leading industry professionals for an informal discussion on the current state of the industry and the latest trends as it moves forward in a post-pandemic world; Producer Iwan Setyabudiman, Directors Lasja F Susatyo, Richard Oh, Nia Dinata, and Sim F, Cinematographers Anggi Frisca and Benny Kadarhariarto, Screenwriter Titien Wattimena and Actors Ario Bayu and Sha Ine Febriyanti.
Festival guests from around the archipelago will be flown to Balinale with its Official Airline Partner Citilink, one of the premier brands of Indonesia recognized for its award-winning service and management.
Another exciting collaboration is the establishment of an Institutional Partnership with RUS Animation Studio – SMK Raden Umar Said Kudus, vocational school supported by PT Djarum. RUS Animation Studio will demonstrate work created by the students and discussion the future of animation in Indonesia.
All public events will follow CHSE – government protocols.
The limited free in-cinema screenings will be shown at Park 23 Cinema XXI South Kuta, Badung, Bali.
