Bali – 7 January 2022: The Bali Film Festival (BFF) today announced the dates for the festival’s 15th edition will take place from Thursday, 9 June to Sunday, 12 June on Bali – one of the most inspirational places on earth.
The decision to move the dates was taken in consultation with Indonesian film professionals and will better support this vibrant industry by providing a much-needed boost in the first half of the year.
Submissions for 2022 open on Tuesday, 4 January for all categories including feature and short films – narrative or documentary.
BFF is where exciting and unique voices such as celebrated directors Garin Nugroho, Lee Chang-dong, David Michôd, Jan Chapman, Hanung Bramantyo, Salman Aristo, and Roland Joffe’ have presented their films.
The festival has also been a platform for emerging new filmmakers such as Harvan Agustriansyah and Destian Rendra Pratama.
Bali Film Festival 2022 Program Director is Richard Oh. “This June the festival will continue following its long tradition of presenting independent movies from Indonesia and around the world showing audiences a wide array of films, representing a variety of languages, genres and styles,” says Oh.
The festival has a juried competition with awards presented in several artistic and technical categories for Narrative Features, Documentaries and Short films. Esteemed jury members have included Nia Dinata, Michael Rowe, Donna Smith, and Maryanne Redpath among others.

Submissions & Deadlines for BFF2022:
- 4 January 2022 – Submissions Open
- 31 January 2022 – Early Deadline
- 28 February 2022 – Official Deadline
- 20 March 2022 – Final Deadline
In order to encourage local filmmakers, BFF established the Gary L Hayes Award for Emerging Filmmakers to actively seek out and support the next generation of filmmakers.
BFF is dedicated to supporting Indonesian cinema and providing an opportunity to show their films to an international audience. All submissions for Indonesian Nationals (WNI) are free of charge. Request for waivers is done through our website.
After a highly successful hybrid edition in 2021, which combined in-cinema experiences at partner venue Cinema XXI and an online edition for audiences at home via Book My Show, BFF2022 plans to hold a combination of an indoor/outdoor/online festival as the most exciting and responsible way to unite international audiences and our local community.
