Asian Cinerama — Hong Kong Focus runs for 4 days — Thursday 15 – Sunday 18 September at Plaza Indonesia XXI, Jakarta and presents six (6) current productions by promising and established Hong Kong filmmakers in a variety of genres. Asian Cinerama is the first collaborative event on the Road to Balinale 2023.
Asian Film Awards Academy (AFAA) together with Bali International Film Festival (Balinale) and supported by Create Hong Kong (CreateHK) and Film Development Fund (FDF), will open with a premiere screening of SHADOWS directed by Glenn Chan. The film has been hailed as ‘one of the best films of the year’. The film’s producer and scriptwriter, Mani Man, will hold a post-screening Q&A and conduct a Filmmaking Seminar hosted by Binus University, Jakarta. The live event will also be broadcast virtually.
“We are pleased to have Mani Man, producer and scriptwriter to open the Asian Cinerama program with her film SHADOWS and conduct a seminar on topics ranging from film funding, co-production opportunities, and initiatives to nurture local talent,” said Balinale Founder and Executive Director, Deborah Gabinetti.
Ms Man is also Deputy General Manager of mm2 Entertainment Hong Kong, a leading media entertainment and content company with regional offices in Kuala Lumpur, Taipei, Singapore, Shanghai, Beijing, and the United States. Since 2015, mm2 Entertainment also develops new filmmaking talent through the annual short film competition – mm2 Movie Makers Awards – where three winners are offered an opportunity to develop a feature film with mm2 Entertainment. The list of films include VAMPIRE CLEANUP DEPARTMENT, SHADOWS, ONE SECOND CHAMPION, and DRIFTING. “It is very exciting to travel to Jakarta with my latest film SHADOWS,” said Mani Man. “I am so looking

Since its beginning in 2007, Asian Film Awards Academy has recognized notable Indonesian-produced films. OPERA JAWA directed by Garin Nugroho with Rahayu Supanggah winning for Best Composer.
LOVELY MAN by Teddy Soeriaatmadja received several nominations with Donny Damara walking away with the Best Actor Award, and director Edwin, taking home The Edward Yang New Talent Award. Other multiple nominees over the years include: THE RAINBOW TROOPS / LASKAR PELANGI directed by Riri Riza, THE MIRROR NEVER LIES directed by Kamila Andini, WHAT THEY DON’T TALK ABOUT WHEN THEY TALK ABOUT LOVE and MARLINA THE MURDERER IN FOUR ACTS both directed by Mouly Surya, among others.
