JAKARTA The 2023 Bali International Film Festival (Balinale) has entered its 16th anniversary. The implementation this time took place on Thursday-Sunday, June 1-4, 2023. The 2023 Balinale took place at the Park23 Creative Hub Cinema XXI, Bali.
This year’s festival will continue its traditions, featuring films of narrative features, documentarys and independent short films. Some of the films include award-winning films from around the world in various genres, styles, and languages.
Rows of impressive and theme-rich films, narrations, visuals and all their uniqueness, are present in the four-day screening program. A total of 44 film titles represent 12 countries, four of which are Premiere International films. This year’s festival opens with a film entitled A Guilty Conscience by Jack Ng (Hong Kong), played by actor Dee Ho.
There is also a list of films with achievements on the world festival stage, such as Clondike by Maryna Er Gorbach. Klondike won in Sundance and Berlinale, and became the film representative of Ukraine at the Oscar 2023. The crime drama by Philip Yung (Hong Kong), Where the Wind Blows.

Rows of short story films, documentaries and other classy dramas at the 2023 Balinale include: Crowds are White by Irish director Ahsen Nadeem. Last Vision by Spanish director, Enrique Buleo, Playground by Yaxing Lin (American). Two directors of the country, Yuda Kurniawan with short films entitled The Tone Wheels and Azalia Muchransyah through the film Lolitha.

Balinale is recognized internationally as one of the main film festivals in Southeast Asia. Balinale is known for its special understanding, as well as its promotion and support for Indonesia’s film progress in international forums, support for independent and established filmmakers.
Balinale has always been a platform choice for filmmakers who have just emerged, partnership support programs, cooperation and cross-border collaboration. Among them is a partnership program titled Art of the Score The word School’s Center for Innovation in the Arts. Creative collaboration involving musicians and composers oftunate students and student filmmakers from Indonesia. This year, Balinale presents the winner of the American-Indonesian Cultural and Educational Foundation (AICEF) Prize for long filmmakers from Indonesia in their first or second works.
The excitement of Hong Kong’s Film Program Making Waves Navigators of Hong Kong Cinema 2023, is a special choice for the presence of industry players and filmmakers from Hong Kong in Balinale 2023. This program is supported by CreateHK, Hong Kong International Film Festival and Hong Kong Economic Trade Office (HKETO). Making Waves presents films such as: The Sparring Partner by director Ho Cheuk-Tin, The Sunny Side of the Street by director Lau Kok-rui, Cyber Heist by Wong Hing Fan. Then there is A Guinness Concence by director Jack Ng.
In addition, other Hong Kong films that are present in Balinale 2023 are Vital Sign by director Vincci Cheuk, Mad Fate by director Soi Cheang, and Philip Yung present through his work, Where the Wind Blows. All of them attended the four-day festival program and competed in prestigious events, full of challenges and were rich in the Perprective celebration of a festival. Light, Camera, Bali!
