Hunt for the Wilderpeople has won best film at the Bali International Film Festival.

Audiences picked the Taika Waititi feature as the festival's best overall film, beating out movies including Eddie the Eagle.

The Bali win is the latest in a string of festival wins for the film, which tells the story of a foster child and bushman on the run from the law.

Wilderpeople has also picked up audience awards at the Edinburgh International Film Festival and the San Francisco International Film Festival, among others.

Other winners in Bali included Eddie the Eagle, which took out best international film, and Daughters of the Forest, which won best documentary.

Better known as the Balinale, the Bali International Film Festival is in its 10th year.

This year's festival, organised under the principles of "no boundaries, no limits to creativity or the means of expression", screened 20 features, 13 documentaries and 69 short films.
