Hong Kong Film Gala Presentation

Balinale is proud to partner with Hong Kong-based Asian Film Awards Academy (AFAA) for the launch of the “Hong Kong Film Gala Presentation” in Indonesia.

The Jakarta event will present a selection of outstanding new releases that recognize Hong Kong, its established film industry, and the rich visual history. A highlight of the event will be live post screening interviews with the filmmakers. Opening Night Premiere will be attended by film professionals, noted personalities, associations, government, and community leaders.

Asian Film Awards Academy was established in 2013 by Asian Film Festivals – Busan, Hong Kong, and Tokyo – to highlight, strengthen and develop Asian film industry and culture. Through this collaboration, we aim to further support and strengthen our platforms for Asean filmmakers.

A tribute to the bygone era of filmmaking, filmed by seven auteurs HK filmmakers each covering a different period in the city’s recent history.

Drifting (Jun Li)

Released from jail, Fai goes back to his old stomping ground, but his return to normal life is cut short when the authorities raid his makeshift home and dispose of his belongings. Urged on by a social worker, Fai and his fellow homeless friends take their fight to court.

Keep Rolling (Man Lim Chung)

One of Hong Kong’s most influential filmmakers, Ann Hui, becomes a “star” in Man Lim Chung’s directorial debut. The film probes into her idiosyncratic world, where we see her rashness and goofiness, as well as her humanistic concerns for the everyday nobodies.

Better Days (Derek Tsang)

Nian, a 17-year-old schoolgirl becomes the target of school bullying after a fellow classmate has committed suicide. She later befriended Bei, an orphaned street youth. They form a unique bond that is soon tested when they are both implicated in a murder.

The Way We Keep Dancing (Adam Wong)

The Kowloon Industrial District is home to many of Hong Kong’s artists where the government is preparing the area for gentrification. The ‘The Way We Dance’ group participates in a publicity stunt to transform the district into a ‘Dance Street.’

One Second Champion (Chiu Sin Hang)

Tin Yen, a man who has the power to predict events a second before they happen. When a boxing fanatic discovers Tin Yen’s power and grooms him into a boxer, he starts using his gift to win every single game, earning the title, ‘One-Second Boxing King’.
