Cosmopolitan - Bali International Film Festival or Balinale is a film festival with a long history in Indonesia. For 10 years BIFF has aired hundreds of domestic and international films. The festival also succeeded in attracting top Indonesian and international directors, producers and actors to come to Bali.
Prior to the main Balinale event, a number of film industry professionals gathered from September 22-23 at the BalinaleX Film Forum, an event focusing on the commercial aspects of the film industry. In organizing the first BalinaleX, Balinale 2017 provides opportunities for stakeholders from the government, creative and commercial sectors to discuss the visual industry and entertainment ecosystems in Indonesia.
The opening ceremony of Balinale 2017 was held at Cinemaxx, Lippo Mall Kuta Bali on September 24, 2017 and presented more than 100 films from 42 countries. Especially this year, Balinale 2017 introduces the category 'In Competition' with a jury led by Michael Rowe (Australia / Mexico), winner of the Gold Camera at the Cannes Film Festival and Venice Days Award, with board members Jeane Huang (Taiwan), former director Taipei Film Festival, Taiwan Arts Council Chief Consultant and President of Core Cultural Management, and Erwin Arnada writer and director of the House in Seribu Ombak who have won numerous awards.
The founder of Balinale, Deborah Gabinetti said that Indonesia has great potential to become a production location for television series and films. Indonesia also has an experienced professional workforce, a variety of spectacular locations and increasingly improved investment opportunities for the creative industry. He also hopes that this event can do a lot for the community, in addition to encouraging cultural development and national economy.
