Stumbling across the perfect wave, two surfers start a chain reaction of unintended consequences.

An island community dramatically changed forever by the discovery of the perfect wave in the 1970’s, POINT OF CHANGE chronicles the first surfers to ‘discover’ this Point at Nias Island, Indonesia, and the unintended dramatic consequences that followed: devastating social and ecological repercussions for the people, and place.

Director’s Profile

Rebecca Coley

Rebecca has made a number of award-winning short narrative films including PRETTY BITCH and HARD TO SAY. She is a Berlinale Talent Lab alumni, worked for Adjust Your Set Agency in London, directing commercial content for big brands, and made many short films, including the documentary STEAMERS, which was commissioned by Channel 4 as part of the cult late night ‘Shooting Gallery’ screening platform for new talent. Her award-winning short documentary CHANGING POINT about Bonne Gea, won ‘best short’ at London Surf Film Festival. With a number of projects currently in development, Rebecca’s next project MERMAID is based on true events and is currently being developed on Stowe Story Lab.

Rebecca is a member of CINESISTERS, FREE THE WORK + DIRECTORS UK. She tutors at the London Met Film School on their Masters program. She is co-founder of MSMONO Productions an award-winning production company focused on telling bold, original and ambitious women-centred stories and is a director of the Jersey Surf Film Festival. Rebecca is currently part of the Directors UK INSPIRE mentoring scheme.
