ANTARA News - The Bali International Film Festival (Balinale) will be held on September 24-30 and screen 100 short movies, feature films, and documentaries from 30 countries.
The festival`s Director Groza Subakhti said here on Friday the 12th Balinale has become an event to screen local as well as international films and bring together world`s film makers, producers and directors.
This year`s Balinale would focus on the history of film making in Indonesia and show archive films.
Under the theme of "Timeless with Indonesia Films Local Heroes", the festival would be held in two locations set by its official venue partner Cinemaxx, namely the Lippo Mall Kuta and Plaza Renon.
The festival will be opened with the screening of "Sultan Agung", a film directed by Hanung Bramantyo and produced by Mooryati Soedibyo Cinema taken from the Indonesian Local Heroes Series.
It will be closed with Japanese film "Shoplifters" directed by Hirozaku Koreeda which has won the Cannes Film Festival 2018.
As a pre-event, the Balinale would hold BalinaleX Industry Forum in Ayodya Resort Bali, Nusa Dua on September 23.
The forum would involve stakeholders in film industries including the government, creative and commercial sectors, to discuss issues on the commercial challenges and opportunity in both local and international film industries.
In local heroes session, the forum would screen "Moonrise Over Egypt", a film about national hero Haji Agus Salim, "Nyai Ahmad Dahlan", "Wage" and "Sultan Agung", and it would be watched by school children in Badung district.
Among the film producers that would attend the forum are Indonesian producers Ody Mulia Hidayat dan Chand Parwes Servia, Liu Qinglu, and Jean Huang from Taiwan. While Broadway producer Jhett Tolentino who won the Tony Award for his works is scheduled to represent the theater sector.
Balinalex would show Indonesia as an attractive location for international film production.
