Bali Film Festival 2021 Postponed to 18-21 November 2021

BALI, Indonesia — Balinale had fought hard to keep to our planned 16-19 September dates, but it has become apparent that while we continue to face the lingering effects of SARS-CoV-2 and rise in numbers due to its variants, the Festival Committee has made the decision to postpone the festival to 18-21 November 2021.

After discussions with government agencies, local stakeholders, partners, and cinema owners, we are optimistic that by November the government’s CHSE health and safety protocols and PPKM (Community Activity Restrictions) will be limited—if not lifted.

We consider the festival an important part of the community and we aim to help get people back to Bali, providing them with the shared experience of film and celebrate returning to the cinema in a safe environment.

Anticipating the cinemas being operational by November, the festival will be held as a combination of virtual and regulated in-person events and continue to present a dedicated section to celebrate the films not shown in 2020 due to the cancellation. We will utilize our resources to bring a fuller program and one focused on growing its educational and filmmaker development.

2021 may have changed our plans, but partners, stakeholders, filmmakers, and the community who place their hope in us to aid in the island’s recovery have inspired our team to keep working diligently and with passion to bring an in-person program to Bali in a way that reflects the festival's spirit.

Great things happen when a community comes together. Therefore, we sincerely appreciate your understanding and ongoing support. We will continue to monitor the situation and consult with government agencies for updates. The festival’s first priority will always be the health and well-being of our audience members and staff.

We look forward to hosting you this November. Until then, stay safe and healthy!
