The Jakarta Post - The Balinale International Film Festival was appointed as an ASEAN International Film Festival and Awards 2013 (AIFFA) consulting organization and nomination committee member. AIFFA recognized Balinale for its specialized knowledge and importance in promoting films from Indonesia. Balinale hosted an ASEAN Film Festival Focus last year to coincide with the 18th ASEAN Summit held in Bali.
AIFFA will be held in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia, on the island of Borneo. The prestigious three-day event will run from March 28 - 30 2013 with a gathering of ASEAN filmmakers, as well as artists, from around the world.
As part of its promotional activities, the organizers, World Communications Network Resources (M) Sdn. Bhd., enlisted the assistance of Balinale to create awareness among filmmakers in Indonesia to submit their films to the festival competition.
According to Livan Tajang, project director of AIFFA 2013, “The festival will not only establish cooperation and collaboration between filmmakers, but also give recognition to filmmakers with outstanding achievements in ASEAN cinema.”
Three Indonesian films recommended by Balinale and already invited to participate as part of AIFFA’s Opening Night celebration are 5 cm, Cinta Tapi Beda and Habibie & Ainun.
AIFFA international jury members will include Deborah Gabinetti, director of the Bali Film Center and founder of the Balinale International Film Festival.
Balinale celebrates the art of global film by presenting mainstream, independent, documentary and short films from around the world in a weeklong event held in Bali.
