"A FESTIVAL IS AN IMPORTANT CREATIVE NURTURER OF A FILM COMMUNITY AND I BELIEVE Balinale WILL PLAY AN INCREASING ROLE IN UPLIFTING LOCAL FILM MAKERS"

Testimonial Lee Chang-dong

Each year, Balinale provides creative workshops and seminars to thousands of secondary school students and aspiring young filmmakers that promote inspired learning. Conducted by Indonesian and Oscar®, Emmy®, BAFTA®, AFA, FFI and Cannes award winning filmmakers, we are grateful to these professionals that generously share their knowledge and passion for the art and craft of film.

The success of the program and the people participating is demonstrated in the Festival’s first ever student-produced films on the topic of environment that were proudly shown at the closing ceremony of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (UNFCC) held in Bali (2008). ‘Road to Balinale’ continues to expand each year with programs in different cities with workshops on a career in film encompassing many of the related creative industries and the opportunities offered in fashion, literature, music, technology, art, design, and architecture.

An important part of Balinale’s commitment to the community continues to be in providing local audiences free access to many of our films by holding Student Film Screenings and the annual Family Film Program provided free of charge. One of the most rewarding part of the festival is our annual Children’s Program where each year we bring several orphanages to the festival to experience the magic of cinema, many for the very first time.
