The festival held a series of associated cultural, community & industry events, and as a significant strategy of the festival to promote the growth & recognition of Indonesian Cinema, showcased 'Special Previews' of new and upcoming releases presented by the film's cast & crew.

Highlights of the 9th annual 'Bali International Film Festival', also known as 'BALINALE', held in Bali, Indonesia in September 2015. The final number of films selected totaled 105 titles from 29 countries with 50 participating filmmakers.

With the theme Face of Diversity, the festival presented films that entertained and inspired, challenged and exposed us to the rich diversity and uniqueness of people, places, cultures and beliefs. The program included an excellent mix of world cinema and a record 26 local gems many showing as premieres and several with filmmakers here meeting with our enthusiastic and appreciative audience members.

View highlights from our 8th annual event to include Affiliate Programs, Media Launch, Film Premieres, Workshops, Charity & Community Events, Filmmaker Gatherings and the ever popular Audience Choice Awards Closing Night Party. BALINALE 2014 was attended by some of the biggest names in the domestic film industry; Producers, Directors and Celebrities presented their work alongside international award winning filmmakers. Cultural Officials represented several of the 18 countries featured from the record 60 titles screened to include 21 Asian, 5 International and 3 World Premieres.

Sundance Film Forward in Indonesia . BALINALE 2014 proudly partnered with US Embassy Jakarta in bringing a series of award winning documentary films from the prestigious Sundance Institute Film Forward International Touring Program. In attendance was Film Editor Doug Blush who presented the Oscar winning Twenty Feet from Stardom and discussed the film with an appreciative audience during two screenings. Doug also conducted a documentary filmmaking workshop with the local film community.

Sundance Institute Film Forward International Touring Program was held at Bentara Budaya Bali with Film Editor Doug Blush conducting a one day discussion on filmmaking for the local film community, as well as, presenting his Oscar winning ‘Twenty Feet from Stardom’.
A personal taped greeting from the Archbishop as the BALINALE audience settled in to watch this truly inspiring film. 'Children of the Light' directed by Dawn Engle (USA) is the first film to tell the life story of Nobel Prize winner Desmond Tutu, one of the fathers of modern day South Africa. With extensive archival footage, family photos and never before seen interviews, the documentary is a personal look into the legacy of one of the greatest peacemakers of our time. The film’s Asian Premiere was held on 18 October as the festival’s Closing Night Feature.
The festival was attended by actors, actresses, filmmakers, and film industry professionals from both within and outside the country. Indonesia's Nicholas Saputra, Adipati Dolken, Poppy Sofia, Titi Rajo Bintang and Julia Perez along with Cannes Camera d’or winning director Michael Rowe, Singapore's Jack Neo, South Korean filmmaker Lee Chang-Dong, US Studio Executive Jill Gwen Braginets, Executive Producer Donna Smith and many more. Events included World Premieres, Special Previews, Discussions, Workshops, Cocktail Receptions and Audience Choice Awards.
“Slank Nggak Ada Matinya” directed by Fajar Bgtis (Indonesia) is a feature film that dramatizes the story of the band members rise to fame as they struggle to cope with success while staying true to themselves and the millions of loyal 'Slankers'. Adipati Dolken (lead actor) was in attendance to accept the Audience Choice Award of Appreciation for the film.

Kesuksesan film SLANK NGGAK ADA MATINYA turut dirasakan Abdee sebagai salah satu personel band Slank. Pasalnya film tersebut masuk ke Festival Film Internasional Balinale yang diselenggarakan di pulau Dewata Bali mulai (12-18 Oktober). Seperti apa? Simak, di sini!

BALINALE 2014 had a record 60 titles from 18 countries to include 21 Asian, 5 International and 3 World Premieres presented to a record number of audience members.

Highlights include Opening Night Premiere MANTO ACUÍFERO (The Well) with 2010 Caméra d'Or winner Michael Rowe in attendance, Closing Night Premiere CHILDREN OF THE LIGHT Dawn Engle (USA) and 2014 Venice Film Festival award winning short MARYAM with Sidi Saleh.

Last year the festival celebrated 50 films from 20 countries with many of those films selected coming from global film submissions. Two World Premieres, five Asian Premieres and two International Premieres rounded out the 2013 film screenings that climaxed with the popular People’s Choice Awards. Over 40 celebrities and filmmakers including Oscar®, AFI®, BAFTA®, Cannes and Asian award winners participating in workshops, film receptions and award presentations.

NET TV: Festival Co-founder Christine Hakim talks about the reason behind creating the festival and the importance of film in bringing more global awareness of Indonesia and its domestic film industry. She expresses the potential the country has as a film location and the positive response the festival has received over the years and acknowledgment of the international film industry. The work of the educational foundation behind BALINALE and the challenges the festival faces due to the lack of government funding.

Hanung Bramantyo announces the World Premiere of his political drama '2014' will be held during BALINALE. The film's co-director Rahabi Mandra and lead actor Donny Damara were in attendance to introduce the film at a standing room only screening. '2014' has a January 2014 release date. Hanung also talked about presenting a special director's preview of his upcoming highly anticipated drama SOEKARNO based on the life of Indonesia's first president. Cast members Ario Bayu & Tika Bravani with Producers Amrit Punjabi and Aris Muda were at the screening. SOEKARNO will be released in December 2013.

Starvision: Raditya Dika introduces the World Premiere of MANUSIA SETENGAH SALMON to a full house on the opening day of the festival. The comedy, which he stars in, is based on his popular novel of the same man. The film was one of the highlights of the festival program enjoyed by both the Indonesian and international audience members.

34 award winning feature, documentary and shorts from 12 countries were proudly presented during the 2012 festival line-up. Films presented by their makers included the World Premiere of ALEX CROSS with a special taped greeting by director Rob Cohen, JAKARTA HATI, OCHRE AND INK, ANIMAL KINGDOM, BRAN NUE DAE, OCEAN HEAVEN and LOVELY MAN among many others.

Metro TV: BALINALE hosted its annual Children's Charity Film Program with a free film screening for over 500 enthusiastic young people. The program is a significant part of the festival's commitment to the community where it invites under privileged children to experience the world of cinema for the very first time. Educational Programs are also provided to promote inspired learning with seminars and workshops conducted by award winning filmmakers who generously share their knowledge and passion for the art and craft of film.
