2011 international film location trade publication highlights Bali filming

Filming throughout Indonesia's 17,000 islands covers 1.91 million sq km of some of the most diverse locations in the world. With abundant natural resources, the country and its wealth of diverse and unique water-based locations are an important part of its promotions.

One third of the 2010 Sony Pictures ‘EAT PRAY LOVE’ movie adaptation of Elizabeth Gilbert’s bestselling memoir was set on the island of Bali. A pier was built for a climactic scene between Julia Roberts and Javier Bardem. When the Regent of Badung, Bali (A.A. Gde Agung) attended the film's premiere during BALINALE International Film Festival he didn’t recognize the locations filmed in his district, in particular, he questioned where the pier was located.

Tourists now coming to Bali seeking locations featured in EAT PRAY LOVE are a bit disappointed to find that some of them were sets created for the film.
