  • What is BALINALE?

BALINALE International Film Festival was established in 2007 by the non-government, not-for-profit Indonesian registered charity organization Yayasan Bali Taksu Indonesia as a platform to showcase thought provoking, unique and award-winning current releases from all genres produced by Indonesians and filmmakers from around the world.

  • What makes BALINALE different than other film festivals?

In addition to presenting quality films, BALINALE offers free student workshops to aspiring young filmmakers throughout the year.

We give local filmmakers an opportunity to present their work and network with international industry professionals. And the festival invites foreign filmmakers to screen their films to an enthusiastic and potentially huge Indonesian market. We also provide them an opportunity to explore Indonesia for possible film projects.

  • What are some of the main programs in the festival?

BALINALE screens an interesting line-up of entertaining films, host a free Children's Film Program, and conduct YOUNG INDONESIAN FILM CIRCLE educational workshops.

The festival is also a forum for the film industry to exchange creative ideas by holding daily seminars with visiting filmmakers.

We host celebrity events, international gatherings and film premiers.

  • What is the overall criteria for film selections?

The festival looks to provide alternatives for movie-goers to see films outside of the mainstream on offer in local cinemas. We look for recent releases, eclectic, independent or studio films, classics with a connection to the island of Bali and films with limited commercial release or not already out on DVD.

We accept feature, documentary, short and animated films in all genres. Formats shown are 35mm or DVD.

  • How can I submit my film?

An online form is available on our website where you will find complete submission details and guidelines. (Please visit the link for more information)

  • Are there many Indonesian films shown?

  • Are there film competitions?

Audience Choice Awards are presented to the most popular films as voted by audience members.

Also allows them opportunities for networking and gaining possible employment within the industry.
